Updated Traditional Hamptons Home by Sea Green Designs

Classic Styling, Modern Finish

This updated Hamptons home, designed by Shannon Willey of Sea Green Designs, is located in a cozy hamlet of Westhampton Beach. The owners were after a traditional look with contemporary sensibility, leading the designer to incorporate classic pieces of furniture with layered finishes into the design to accommodate this old-meets-new style. Walls have been hand-finished with warm textures such as stucco, glazes and wallpapers, and layered patterns in the window treatments and upholstery make this home feel warm and inviting, yet still sophisticated and current. While the overall palette is neutral, blue tones and coastal art and accents were brought into each room, that celebrates the home’s lovely waterfront location.

Designer Notes: It’s All in the Details

The living room features coastal blues mixed with sandy beiges and walls in a textured sandstone finish that evokes the beach. A distressed painted fireplace surround soars dramatically to the peak of the twenty-foot coffered ceilings, where the eye is drawn to the tongue and groove detail and painted beams. The home owner wanted a space that was comfortable yet sophisticated, as it is immediately open to the foyer and the kitchen.

The home is used year-round for entertaining, and the living room was designed from the start to include the billiard table.

The kitchen cabinets have a traditional style, but the modern glass-tiled backsplash makes the space feel timeless. The upper walls in the kitchen were stenciled in a Morroccan trellis pattern to add subtle interest.

The hand-made ceramic tiles in the wet bar bring in a hint of coastal blue, as do the bench and seat cushions.

Designer Shannon Willey was responsible for creating all custom finishes in the living room and kitchen, lending a very personalized touch to this project.
