Scandinavian Christmas

Northern Lights

Freshen up old-fashioned holiday decor with just a few simple tips this year: go simple and uncluttered, think cozy fur texture meets stark white (with occasional pops of fresh red, green, and metallics), and above all go with a rustic-meets-modern approach. In other words, look to the world of Scandinavian-style holiday decorating, because they’ve got this whole “merry and bright” thing on lock. Natural decor plays a key role in this style, so bring in evergreen garlands, bare branches and pinecones where you can, and don’t forget the centerpiece–a real Christmas tree! Can’t bring in real branches? Try a modern look inspired by nature, like the simple, branching shape of this Daphne candleholder. Geometric forms are a hallmark of Scandinavian design year-round, but work especially well with the icons of the holiday season, which is why we’re loving this pair of triangle-accented boxes, minimalist tree-shaped tealight holder, and diamond-inspired brass ornaments (a nod to Finnish himmeli, traditional ornaments made of straw). Fur is a must-have in the cold northern winters, so this style always includes a cozy sheepskin or two (whether faux or otherwise is up to you)…the REstyle team is loving this chic faux fur bag and modern rectangular bench trimmed in luxurious Mongolian sheepskin. We think the most appealing thing about this trend is the way it marries rustic country traditions (woven straw ornaments and traditional textiles) with the clean lines of modern aesthetics, for a look that’s neither too cute nor too austere–just right for holiday cheer!
