Reclaimed Wood Heart Sign

A Telltale Sign…

…of love! Speaking of love, have we mentioned that we L-O-V-E this reclaimed wood heart sign from My Sweet Savannah? And we also love all of the love that is going on this week, from Local Love to Valentine’s Love, it’s a good week. That being said, why not make it even better by making this adorable DIY heart sign for your sweetie (or just to hang up in the house)? Made from repurposed wood and a little chalk paint here and there, this is probably one of the cheapest AND cutest DIY projects around, and we think that you should get started! Full materials and instructions listed below…and be sure to check out some of our pretty Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® suggestions for you to use, and the local shops you can find them at!

Reclaimed Wood Heart Sign Instructions:
  1. I started with some pieces of wood that I already had put together. You could use pallet wood for this easily though.
  2. To make the heart pattern, I taped several pieces of paper together and then folded it in half, and cut.
  3. Using a pencil, trace around the edge of your heart pattern and discard.
  4. Next up you will need to paint your heart. I used a light grey chalk paint. Let dry.
  5. Using 1 1/2″ blue painters tape, tape off straight sections over the heart, evenly spaced.
  6. Paint those areas with a cream colored paint, or the color of your choice.
  7. Let dry and then remove tape.
  8. This is the part where you can get really creative. Using a pencil, hand draw on a quote, a poem, a saying, lyrics to a song, etc. Don’t worry about your penmanship, the more handwritten looking, the better!
  9. Using a thin paint brush, go over the pencil with black paint.
  10. When it is all dry, you can lightly sand over the whole heart to distress it a bit.
