Interview with Nancy Price of Nancy Price Interior Design
Nancy Price started Nancy Price Interior Design over two decades ago in Jackson, Mississippi. As the granddaughter of a master craftsman, Nancy developed an early love for both design and art and quickly applied her natural eye for beauty to designing interior spaces. Louisiana-born and raised, Nancy is quick to point out that growing up surrounded by the blend of French, Spanish and African influences found in the Creole culture helped to form the unique aesthetic perspective from which she makes her design decisions today. Under her direction as lead designer, Nancy Price Interior Design sees the full potential in blending objects together to create seemingly unusual pairings that evolve a space into livable art. REstyleSOURCE recently sat down for a Q&A with this talented designer and antiques dealer in which she shared some of her influences, inspiration, and more…
What did you want to be when you grew up? “I did not have an exact plan but I knew it would always involve art and design.”
How would you describe your design style and influences? I am originally from Louisiana and the mix of French, Spanish, and African influences found in the Creole culture has impacted my eye for design. I believe that being surrounded by this natural blend of influences heightened my ability to see complementary elements from different styles when considering composition. I believe in the power of juxtaposition. I love pairing a French Louis XV fauteuil with a sleek midcentury table. It creates an environment that is both intriguing and refined. My grandfather was a master craftsman and I developed an early love for both design and art and quickly applied my eye for beauty into design interior spaces.
What design rule do you think was “meant to be broken”? Using only one style in designs. I love to mix styles and create unexpected and beautiful pairings. This is evident in all my design work.
Designer Notes: Favorite Materials, Textures, Colors?
In addition to being an interior designer, I am also an antiques dealer and I think incorporating antiques into my design jobs creates more interest in a space. I have found that the use of antiques achieves that one of a kind look that my clients appreciate. I have a deep love for art and I always use original art in every one of my design jobs. I love mixing pieces together from different time periods to create a space that has soul and depth. Mostly, I work with a neutral palette and typically use blue as an accent color.
What qualities do you most admire in a space? Balance. I never want the elements in a space to compete with each other but simply to harmoniously compliment.
Where do you go when you need to find inspiration? As cliché as it may sound, for me I find the most inspiration at the beach. It is so peaceful. I intentionally unplug and truly take the time to let my mind wander and create. I use that quiet time to review all the inspiration pictures I have taken on my phone and make detailed notes on how to apply them into my design work. I always return from the beach feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and full of inspiration.
Designer Notes: Favorite City
Throughout all my travels, I have fallen in love with so many places in the world. Even though it is one of the closest cities to home, I would have to say New Orleans is my favorite to visit. It truly holds a special place in my heart.
The architecture of both new and old is a visual feast for the eyes, and the celebration of decadence and decay is evident in all the design there.

If you could live inside the world of a favorite book or movie, which would it be and why? I would definitely say I could live in the movie “The Holiday”. I think that the homes featured in the film encapsulate the best of both design worlds. The elegant, edited home in LA and the beautiful, quaint English country home. Who could ask for more?
Who would you pick as a “dream client,” if you could choose anyone? A Grecian yachtsman or yachtswoman. I have always wanted to practice the very edited design aesthetic found in the beautiful white plaster structures in Greece. I love the look of one small object placed on a crisp white wall. Additionally, I have always dreamed of designing the interior of a yacht. I would say my dream client would have a home in Greece and a yacht that I would design simultaneously.
“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

What is your most prized possession? This is a hard question. I love everything I have but if I had to choose just one thing to leave my home with it would be this amazing piece of art in a cubist style. I found it on my very first buying trip to Buenos Aires many years ago and it still moves me everyday.
What’s your best tip for entertaining in style at home? Simplicity. I believe in allowing the design of the home to do the bulk of the work. The addition of fresh florals mixed back with beautiful old white china and cut crystal is always a winner in my book.
