flowerWhat inspires your design work? I get inspiration from so many things in life…my travels, experiencing other cultures and their artisanal crafts, etc. I love architecture, nature, fashion, and basically all things which are beautiful!

What is the inspiration behind your Pantone vignette? My inspiration for our Pantone vignette stems from delicate and translucent materials such as glass, natural quartz and rock crystals, and petals in a flower. All can be transformed by light. My wife’s hobby is macro-photography of unique and rare flowers…. There is nothing more striking than seeing a gorgeous bloom backlit by sunlight.

Can you describe your design aesthetic in three adjectives?

“Enticing, inviting, and luxurious.”

TdCTell us more about what will go into your Pantone vignette! How did you decide which palette to build your design on? Which pieces are your favorites, and why?

For the exhibit, we designed a modern lady’s boudoir and lounge. I chose the “Ephemera” palette because I wanted to show a different side to our creativity. Most people know our work to be dark and sultry, and I wanted to show a lighter, softer side…although I have to say that we definitely have not left out the glamour! Here are a few sneak peeks from my collection:

  • One of the most luxe pieces in our space is a gorgeous crystal light from Baccarat. It’s called the Tuile De Cristal Suspension (shown at left) and was designed by Arik Lévy.
  • This suspends directly over a cocktail table from RabLabs which is made from a sparkling and sculptural slab of quartz.
  • Finally, the curved white velvet sofa from Christoper Guy invites you to nestle up and pamper yourself.

REstyleSOURCE Loves Local!

CacaoWe are all about ‘loving local’—from designers and manufacturers right down to local brick & mortar shops and eateries! What are some of your favorite local shops and restaurants to visit when you’re in Atlanta?

WOW! Atlanta is booming with so many cool and great foodie and shopping destinations…there are just too many to list, so I hope I don’t upset anyone I leave out! I love Cacao for the finest chocolates (seen at left), a classic steak from Rathbun’s, I am really digging the new Dixon Rye home store. And Ponce City Market (aka PCM) is such an awesome new destination for great food, clothing and home goods!

Michael’s favorite showrooms to visit while at AmericasMart Atlanta?

Michael on shopping the Mart?

“I use the Mart often because my office is nearby and I love that they have complementary valet services now. It’s so easy to pop in even if it’s just for a few minutes if I need to!”

Entertaining Tips from the Designer?

When it comes to ‘setting the stage’ for an entertaining event, Christopher Rosse‘s showroom in the Building 2 of Mart (who provided us the Baccarat for our Pantone collection) and also RabLabs has all the most amazing and finest crystal and place settings. If you are a designer and you need place settings for a party or client, you would be insane not to stop by either of those places!

Up Close & Personal with the Designer…

candlesText or Phone Call? I guess that I’m old-school this way, because I prefer to talk on the phone. / Go for a Walk or Go for a Jog? Walk / Night Owl or Early Riser?  Definitely a night owl…I live in a high rise and love my skyline view!

A perfect evening at home…? I love nothing more than lounging with my wife by a fire or candlelight.

Home Cooked Meal or Fancy Restaurant? Both! / Read the Book or See the Movie? See the movie…I absolutely love good cinematography! / Kindle or Hardcover? Hardcover…Books should always be a part of your environment. They add warmth to any space and also provide insight for your guests about who you are and your personality.

AandGA ‘dream client’, if you could choose anyone…? Angelina Jolie or George Clooney…. They have great style, but more than anything, I really love all of their contributions for people in need around the world, and what they stand for!

Yoga / Salsa Dancing? Dancing…all night long! I met my wife at a salsa club. / Luxury Hotel or Camping Trip? Both! There’s nothing better than a good off-the-beaten-path travel adventure, and afterwards why not spoil yourself in a luxurious and inspiring hotel?
