La Vie Bohème
The French Perfection

There’s just something about French style, isn’t there? Whether they’re pulling off chic, buttoned-down minimalism or wildly colorful, over-the-top maximalism, everything seems to be done with style and grace. One of the most important keys to pulling off any kind of French style is an innate sense of design balance–they are natural “masters of the mix”! One of our favorite looks is a style we like to think of as French Bohemian, combining the treasures of the Paris flea markets with the wonders of a Moroccan bazaar and even Asian antiques. This look begins in the Old World, using traditional pieces like ornate chandeliers and wrought iron daybeds for a romantic feel, then layering in a sense of playful humor and worldly flair with global travel (and even time travel, so feel free to pair the 1770s with the 1970s!) to create a bold and irresistible mélange. Ready to give “La Vie Bohème” a try? Start with a vibrantly patterned rug that commands attention from the ground up, anchoring it with an antique or vintage-inspired chest. A gilt mirror and antique tufted chair can coexist beautifully with an African carved mask and Turkish or Indonesian textiles, and an attention-grabbing find like this leonine face-shaped mirror or large birdcage can create a charming focal point in any space.
