JB headshotJessica’s West Coast Style?

“If we [West Coast designers] had to define ourselves, we’d use the term Transitional, because there’s a cleaned-up aesthetic to our work. More and more we are trying to push ourselves to try new things, stretch ourselves to use different design muscles, and our clients are all about it. They all have different stories to tell, and different points of view, so our style is always evolving.”

“We are mix masters. We play with scale, mix materials, mix with old and new, to get a look that’s more collected.

JB headshot“Having lived on both the East and West coasts, I can definitely say, we Westerners have a more laid-back approach to living.

Our homes and decor are more effortless, not so formal or steeped in tradition. That’s not to say we don’t care what we look like! Westerners are faster to adopt what’s new, and what’s trending. I’d say most of my clientele are always up for change and a fresh way of doing things: new hairstyles, hot new fashion labels and styling (roll your pants, wear an ankle boot with your dress), we aren’t afraid to try something! So, it’s fun to get a phone call from your client and hear, ‘Let’s do it again, I bought a new house’ or ‘Let’s remodel another area!’ “

Why Does She Love Shopping Las Vegas Market? “We love it because it’s easy! It’s so accommodating, easy to get to, easy to shop. There are a million places nearby to stay and eat…and if you want to have fun and catch a show, you can squeeze one of those in before you head out of town. Every time we come to Las Vegas Market, it has consistently grown!”

Her Favorite Find at Market?

“I stumbled across this smaller vendor called Forsyth, in the temporaries (Las Vegas Pavilions) . They sell great vintage silhouettes and re-upholster them in hides. I found 8 dining chairs, upholstered in real zebra hides! We had been working on a fashionable high-end residential dining room. When I stumbled on these chairs, it was like the clouds parted and the heavens shined down on them! I was speechless. There they were in the white temporary tents at market!!”

nobuFavorite Place to Stay in Las Vegas?

“For fun, we like to stay somewhere different every time! It’s Vegas,  you can get a room just about anywhere! They’ve all been great. Staying somewhere different means we can take advantage of the great dining that’s in the hotel, or close by without having to walk too far (since we’ll have just walked all day at market and our feet hurt).”

Favorite Place to Dine Out?

“Nobu is always a treat.”

JB headshotJessica’s Advice for First Time Market Buyers?

“No matter what, you’re going to run out of time. The options are overwhelming! Know your standard of quality, and don’t waver from what you know is great. You’ll get these “buying goggles” on [when you’re shopping at market], where you try and make something work, and you’ll be thinking, “This is pretty, right?” You know if it’s good or not–you just have to trust yourself and know your brand. Stay decisive, and don’t force yourself to be something that’s not you.”
