Interview with Janie Hirsch of J. Hirsch Interior Design

Introducing the next in our series of Designer Spotlights focusing on the group of top design experts who will be featured at AmericasMart’s Pantone Palette Exhibition…Janie Hirsch! Janie is an Atlanta-area designer with an eye for eclectic combinations and a strong connection to architectural elements. We love her tailored, timeless style, and can’t wait to see what she unveils in her vignette! REstyleSOURCE got a sneak preview from Janie which will not only give our readers the lowdown on her design philosophy, but also what they can expect to see from her Pantone Palette vignette at AmericasMart Atlanta in January 2016…

“The Lineage Pantone Palette has rich color that gives a feeling of history, as though stories have been shared during dinner parties over the years.”

Can you describe your design aesthetic in three adjectives? Curated, Classic, Eclectic.

What inspires your design work? Growing up with an architect and watercolor artist for a father, architecture and art have always been inspiration and key components in my designs.  I love for spaces to feel as though they are an important part of the interior.  I also like to incorporate antiques, furniture and accessories, into my designs to help it feel as though it is curated and inherited.

What inspired your Pantone Palette vignette? The Lineage Pantone Palette has rich color that gives a feeling of history, as though stories have been shared during dinner parties over the years. This inspired a Dining Room setting with the color Stargazer, a deep teal, to create a whimsical sense of drama.

Tell us more about what will go into your Pantone vignette! Which pieces are your favorites, and why?

  • A triptych piece of art from Wendover Art Group showing a grand garden set the scene for this dining room with all of the strong colors that are a part of the Lineage palette.
  • Vintage columns and mirrors from Aidan Gray anchor the back of the room, giving the space a feeling of history and many memories shared.
  • A custom dining table from Ella Home brings in a different material and design aesthetic to the room for a new impact on design.
  • A modern étagère from Global Views adds a brightness to the space and a place for a growing collection of decanters and glassware to keep the dinner party going.
  • French-style dining chairs from Gabby Home provide comfortable chairs to linger in while sharing those entertaining stories with friends.
  • Lastly, a pair of metal lanterns from Currey & Company will round out the design and give a glow to the room with a twist on the traditional single chandelier.

AmericasMartJanie on visiting AmericasMart

“Have a plan so that you are not overwhelmed.  Know what you are searching for while keeping an open mind to finding something new and out of your box.  That is when you may find something amazing.”

CBJanie’s Dream Client?

“Candice Bergen.  She has always fascinated me and I secretly wished I could be like her character Murphy Brown.

She has great style and a creative sense of humor!”

Any favorite entertaining or design tips for us? For entertaining, make it fun and relaxing.  Have food that is easy to prepare and set the table with interesting and collected items. For design, collect treasures from your travels that will have meaning and a story so you can surround yourself with the things that you love.

What’s one thing that would make for a perfect evening at home? Close friends, a delicious meal, perfect wine pairings, and lively conversation all make for a perfect evening in.

MUREstyleSOURCE Loves Local!

We are all about ‘loving local’—from designers and manufacturers right down to local brick & mortar shops and eateries! What are some of your favorite local restaurants and shops to visit when you’re in Atlanta?

“My favorite restaurant in Atlanta is Miller Union (see photo at left).  The chef is genius with local ingredients and the wine list is one of the best in town.  Aria for fine dining and Bistro Niko for French are also favorites in my family.”

Steve McKenzie’s, my favorite local shop, is a creative store that has something for everyone, including tabletop, artwork, fabrics, and custom furnishings.  Peridot and B. D. Jeffries are also some of my favorite places to shop.
