FIVE EAST L.A. FAVES BY SANA KEEFER
SANA’S 5 FAVES IN EAST L.A.
2. Cafe Gratitude:
A true organic and vegan restaurant where the dishes are just as inspired as the staff. I love the “I Am Cool” milkshake: a mint chocolate chip concoction crafted with house-made coconut ice cream. Even the “I Am Whole” macrobiotic bowl is good. You might not even know it’s vegan.

3. Casbah Cafe & Bazaar:
At this two-in-one gem, there’s a brilliant boutique and a cafe where a “no wireless” area offers a respite from our electronic lives. Find everything from grab-and-go organic boiled eggs to freshly made tea sandwiches on the counter. After you’ve eaten, scope the bazaar for vintage tea pots, beaded jewelry and gorgeous kaftans.

4. The Raven Spa:
When I’m ready to retreat from the city but can’t get away, I head to The Raven Spa. The laid-back boho vibe allows me to relax and enjoy the environment. There’s also a yoga studio within and a shop that stocks to-die-for textiles.

5. The Standard:
The Standard Downtown is a stylish hotel and hotspot, but I like to visit the 24/7 Restaurant, where Chef Micah Fields is at the helm. He focuses on local and organic comfort dishes. Think chicken and waffles, or corned beef hash. Make sure to try the fresh-squeezed juice and to admire the colorful decor. I love the fun aesthetic. “The shop”, also on the ground floor, offers accessories from favorite local artists.
