Fashion Forward

From the Runway to the Walls

Street style photo c/o FashionFav.com

NYFWWith electricity in the air and a buzz of high style excitement well above the usual level in the city…..New York Fashion Week has officially kicked off for Fall 2016! For those in the fashion industry it is, of course, a must-attend series of events. But for those of us in the home furnishings & interior design industry, this week is a must-watch, as well! After all, who else besides fashion designers weaves magic with fabric, leather, metals and more? Savvy furniture and interior designers keep a close eye on what’s coming down the runway (and vice versa, as the two industries have always watched one another), as styles that are splashed across flowing dresses and jumpsuits can easily become the latest upholstery trend or colorful artwork on the walls. We at the REstyle team can’t get enough of the sights and sounds of the hottest week in fashion, and are looking forward to watching every moment of this crazy, colorful circus for inspiration! Here’s our take on four of the most amazing trends for Fall 2016, and how we’ll be likely to see them interpreted in interiors around the world. Read on for our roundup of REstyle Picks as well, and take home a bit of fashion week for yourself!

Gucci Justina Blakeney

The global bohemian look has officially gone glam–give us all the floral embroidery, sequins and studs, please–and we’re loving it! In a sudden evolution from the softer, pastel-tinted boho looks of summer, fashion has taken a drastic turn towards shimmer and shine in time for the cooler months (see the embroidered silk bomber trend or Gucci fall collection for more evidence). No one does this “more is more” look better than our friend Justina Blakeney, a master of layering pattern on pattern in her luxe interiors and in her new line of global chic rugs and throw pillows for Loloi.

Voluptuous Velvet

Vogue MyDomaineRich, decadent velvets are one trend we can’t wait to see more of this fall–their luxurious texture and subtle sheen are a natural pairing with fall’s deep jewel tones. The soft texture of velvet always seems to invite touch, whether it’s the material of a voluminous couture cloak, deeply draped curtains or the surface of a plush tufted sofa. We’re loving these runway looks that allow a monochromatic ensemble to shine without any distractions, letting that rich, velvety color speak for itself.

Statement Lighting

Regina AndrewWe’ve said it before, and we stand by this opinion–if furnishings and textiles are the “outfit” a room wears, then chandeliers and pendant lighting are the statement jewelry! With so many bold chokers walking the runways for fall 2016, we knew we had to highlight some of our favorite pieces for dressing up a space, as well. Check out some of our favorite runway looks above, each matched with their lighting doppelganger below. Is that chunky, overlapping gold Loewe choker at left an exact ringer for these Regina Andrew lighting pieces, or what–it’s a match made in heaven!

Bold Fur & Feathers

Marc Jacobs DransfieldFur and feathers have gone wild for fall 2016, and we’re seeing fashion designers working in a rainbow of hues from magenta and lavender to iridescent black and kelly green.

Not to be outdone, furniture designers are incorporating these natural-meets-unnatural elements into upholstery and accessories–think dyed Mongolian lamb, shearling, and this line of feathered pillows and mirrors from Dransfield and Ross that we can’t get enough of!
