Rustic Table Setting

Thanksgiving is coming upon us quickly, and it’s time to start thinking about setting the table for you gathering of family and friends. This do-it-yourself project from My Sweet Savannah repurposes a plaid pillowcase and a leather belt to make these perfectly rustic napkins and napkin rings. The colors and patterns remind us of fall, and putting new life into something is a great way to remember to be thankful for what you already have.

Materials and Tools Needed

  • Sewing Machine
  • Measuring Tape
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Pillowcase
  • Coordinating Fabric
  • Iron
  • Leather Belt

  1. Select a pillow case that matches your decor. I chose a plaid Ralph Lauren one. Select a complimentary color for the back.
  2. Cut a square out of each fabric approx. 18″ x 18″.
  3. Pin right side to right side. You may want to iron the fabric before pinning.
  4. Sew a straight stitch on your machine {or this can be done by hand} around 3 3/4 sides. You want to leave a 1/4 open so you can turn it right side out.
  5. After turning it right side out, iron it flat and iron the opening down, tucking in the excess fabric.
  6. Return to your sewing machine and sew shut.
  7. That is it! Repeat this for as many napkins as you need. On a side note: 1 pillow case made 2 napkins.

Project Tip

For a unusual twist on your traditional napkin rings, why not use old leather belts? The texture is great and no two are alike. You can find these at thrift shops fairly inexpensively, and with a sharp pair of scissors, they cut right down to the perfect size!
