Getting Crafty for Christmas

CONTRIBUTED BY HOLLY MATHIS

Making homemade ornaments is a wonderful way to update a tree and they can make great gifts as well. We prefer simple and stylish ornaments of course and it doesn’t hurt when they are affordable too. One super simple and budget-friendly idea is the oldie, but always classic Embroidery Hoop Ornament. Get the steps from Holly Mathis below, and see the rest of her holiday decor here.

Materials and Tools Needed

  • Small Embroidery Hoops
  • Fabric
  • Scissors

Steps
  1. Find a small-scaled fabric you love; for Holly it was classic tartan fabrics easily found at craft stores.
  2. Gather several small sizes of embroidery hoops – 3” to 6” are the best. Varying sizes add interest.
  3. Then insert the fabric in the hoops one by one and pull the fabric until taut.
  4. Trim the edges and hang!

While her background is in Museum Studies and History, Holly Mathis fell into interior design in 2005 when Better Homes & Gardens featured her little cottage. She feels blessed to be able to design for her clients and have time for her family.
