Interview with Dana Wolter of Dana Wolter Interiors

Welcome to a brand new series of Designer Spotlights, focusing on the group of top designers who will bring to life the Diamonds of Design Vignette Exhibition at AmericasMart beginning in January 2017. In celebration of AmericasMart’s sixtieth anniversary, this select group of designers will bring to life their most inspiring design moments, eras and lifestyles of the last 60 years using their favorite finds from the market. The next one of our designers to be featured is…Dana Wolter! Named by Traditional Home as an “up and coming designer to watch” in 2014, Dana and her team create timeless, well-edited homes that are warm and functional for everyday living. REstyleSOURCE recently chatted with Dana, in a brief Q&A which will not only give our readers some background on her design philosophy, but also what they can expect to see from her Diamonds of Design Vignette at AmericasMart Atlanta in January…

How did you get started in the world of interior design? I took a few interior design classes in college, but ended up changing my major. My love for this world was always there, but as a 19 year old I did not know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Once married, my husband and I began to renovate a house. We did this a couple of times and in the meantime as I was honing my skills, I had two friends approach me to help them with their homes. Before I knew it, a little business was born, and over the years my firm has grown nationally through referrals, social media and publications.

What inspires your creativity? So many different things. It could be something in nature, a picture with great colors- Anything with conflicting textures always seems to catch my attention.

DH circleDesigner Notes: Inspiration

Diamonds of Design will focus on style standouts of the last 60 years. Which design icon, style or era from the last 60 years particularly inspires you?  The 1960s and 70s. David Hicks is a favorite design icon from that era.

What was the inspiration behind your vignette? David Hicks inspired my vignette. His style is so warm and captivating with its bold, geometric patterns and mix of modern with antiques. He always has a way of incorporating oversize, sculptural items into small spaces that just works.

Dana’s Must-See AmericasMart Showrooms?

Arteriors | Up Country Home | Regina Andrew | Saddlemans

“I love how AmericasMart has begun to feel like a ’boutique’ market! I love visiting High Design, Arteriors, Up Country, Regina Andrew, Saddlemans, and I am very excited about the addition of ANTIQUES.”

Designer Tips on shopping the market?

“Have an idea of what you are looking for–whether it be furniture, lighting, or accessories. Breaking it down into categories keeps the Mart from being overwhelming when you aren’t familiar with it.”

WSP circleDesigner Notes: Favorite Things

We are all about ‘loving local’—from designers and manufacturers right down to local brick & mortar shops and eateries! What are some of your favorite local shops and restaurants to visit when you’re in Atlanta?

I love all the shops and boutiques in the Westside Provisions District (seen at left), and JCT Kitchen is always a favorite! The Shops of Buckhead is a fun new shopping area I love to browse as well.

Any favorite design tips for us? Wellness is a lifestyle that begins at home. Your surroundings attribute to your health and levels of stress just as much what you eat, how much you exercise, etc. Every room should have a purpose and function for you and your family’s everyday life. Surround yourself with things you love and make sure every object has a designated place, even if it doesn’t always stay in it.
