Clean Cream With Kids On Top
THREE KIDS LIVE IN THIS HOUSE
Yes, really: ages 3, 7 and 9. They play sports. They’re allowed to jump on the furniture. And yet Amy Mueller always keeps her Chandler, Arizona home looking this crisp and clean. Even her plastic baggies are organized in drawers with pretty twine. (As a kid, she thought cleaning out the closet was a good time.)
How does she do it? The washing machine keeps busy, for sure. But Mueller also asked interior designer Kristin Alber of FOUND, a favorite Arizona boutique, to play a few decorator tricks. Together, they made white right for the Mueller family.
1. OUTDOORS INDOORS Beneath those airy slipcovers, all of Mueller’s furniture is upholstered in Sunbrella fabric. It’s scrubbable, bleachable, and durable. The fabric feels soft, and Mueller can go without slipcovers when she wants a different look.
2. MACHINE WASHABLE Speaking of slipcovers, they’re made of machine-washable linen that can stand up to home laundering. Mueller washes early and often to keep them bright.
3. STACK THE DECKS Mueller invested in an extra set of slipcovers for all of her pieces, even the wicker barstools. If one set is in the wash, or she feels the need for a change, she’s ready..
Amy Mueller’s favorite accessories are always white flowers. The room feels fresh, and she feels happy at home. Keeping flowers to a single color makes them easy to arrange yourself.
