Bold Blue Designer Workspace

Inspired By Nature

For the third REstyleSOURCE vignette at AmericasMart, designer Kristin Alber was inspired to create this Bold Blue Designer Workspace to showcase a modern, multi-use design space with a hint of a feminine touch. “This is a space in which we envisioned a creative personality working with clients, browsing through resources, or creating original art. The bold blue wall (an invigorating shade by Sherwin-Williams, Manitou Blue SW6501) served as a great backdrop for the geometric white bookcase and metallic accents throughout the space. Organic elements were a strong theme, and you’ll see the natural world represented in everything from agate slices in the chandelier to succulents, various wood textures, crystals, natural hide and butterfly imagery. Every great workspace should have a place for working out new ideas, so we created an “inspiration wall” to represent the creative brainstorming process. Fabric samples, paint swatches, concept sketches…basically everything that’s inside a designer’s head gets pinned to the wall in a working space like this.” The result is organic, multi-layered & inspiring!

Kristin’s Design Notes

“With any design, for any kind of space, it is important to have the right mix. First, buy what you love…but then step back and take a look at how everything works together. Don’t be afraid to be flexible…try different things and see what works!”

“Inspiration is everywhere… I feel that the most important thing is to admire and draw in inspiration from your surroundings. Traveling & shopping in new, exciting places inspires me. Nature inspires me–the ocean, the mountains, the sky–there is such beauty all around us!”

“I love to shop and find inspiration at the market, whether it is a beautiful fabric or piece of art. I find that the ideas and creativity comes from all of my surroundings and stirs up the ideas from within myself. The showrooms I really enjoy visiting are the ones that go all out in creating an inspirational experience, including music, flowers and food to set the stage. Some of my favorites are Go Home, Hester & Cook, Blue Ocean Traders, Grace & Blake and Barbara Cosgrove.
