Bklyn Larder Brooklyn, NY
HAVE PROVISIONS, NEED PICNIC
BKLYN Larder specializes in “curated selections of our favorite foods,” says co-owner Sergio Hernandez. “Our first criterion is, is it delicious? Would you find it in our pantries? Would we cook with it in our own homes?”
Hernandez and his Larder partners met eight years ago at a farm-to-table restaurant and found the movement so inspiring that they decided to open a farm-to-table store. Now, they comb the country to source and sell products that incite devotion.
We find ourselves transfixed by the honey offerings alone — not to mention the Ciderbuck honey paired with hand-crafted cheese, which might need just a little proscuitto on top. Yes, it’s the kind of place that creates the immediate need for a picnic, or at least a bottle of wine and a night with friends at home.
And speaking of those parties, Hernandez says the best way to inspire a menu is to go to the market and stare at the stacks of fruits and veggies. Find “what is beautiful or ripe and use that to build shape into your menu,” he says. “Don’t compromise.”
