Rhythm and Blues
Contributed by Poplin & Queen
We’ll never understand why “having the blues” is supposed to be a bad thing….here at REstyleSOURCE we’re all about them! From the bohemian flavor of the indigo trend to the classic icy blue stripes and florals of preppy Americana, blues are a classic that have been enjoying another moment in the design spotlight recently. This living room space, contributed by Poplin & Queen, makes excellent use of blue hues in an elegant and contemporary space. The deep, jewel-toned upholstered sofa is inviting–we especially love the crisp white piping, a nice detail that makes the deep Mediterranean blue all the more striking–and nicely balanced by the lighter azure pillows that perch invitingly on its seat. These blues echo subtly around the room in everything from the pair of large-print upholstered chairs to an accent wall highlighting a set of bookshelves, even to the books themselves (a nice touch). These blues never match, yet all belong in approximately the same color “family”, a good designer’s trick to pick up and an excellent way to make use of a lot of color.
Poplin & Queen rounded out the room with a few strategic hits of bright red, seen in the red lacquer accent table and peeking subtly out here and there in the form of fresh red tulips. Small amounts of a contrasting color help to draw attention to the main palette, and keep it from becoming a “sea” of the same, sea-like colors. Played against a background of crisp white and natural textures such as wood and a hide rug, this look comes together perfectly. We couldn’t resist putting our own spin on this refined-yet-inviting living space, so we put together a few REstyleSOURCE picks in the collage below, plus links so that you can find these products locally!
