Artful Farm Living Jennifer Lanne
A PAINTER’s approach to farm cuisine
The farmhouse kitchen of painter Jennifer Lanne’s 1780s home is not traditional and does not have many modern conveniences, but it is a charming space that inspires her when she is cooking. She enjoys planning a colorful menu with a dash of something unexpected, and setting a pretty table to entertain small groups of friends.
Jennifer approaches cooking in the same way she does painting. Color and texture play a significant role in both her art and the food she prepares, creating dishes that are rich and dense in color and flavor. A really important part of the creative cooking process for her is the exploration, consideration, and adaptation of recipes. She loves putting her own spin on existing recipes, altering the flavors to suit her taste.
Lanne is continuously amazed at how much she can cook and enjoy with what is available to her locally. She cooks simply, using the freshest of ingredients from her farm and her neighbors’ gardens in upstate New York. Each dish she prepares not only uses fresh ingredients and is full of flavor, but also must be pretty. If she needs inspiration, she looks no further than the barnyard and the season’s offerings.
Use a pretty plate; it makes good food taste even better.
Set a pretty table; it makes a simple meal an occasion to celebrate the everyday.
