Interview with Anna Braund of Anna Braund Interior Design

Welcome to a brand new series of Designer Spotlights, focusing on the group of top designers who will bring to life the Diamonds of Design Vignette Exhibition at AmericasMart beginning in January 2017. In celebration of AmericasMart’s sixtieth anniversary, this select group of designers will bring to life their most inspiring design moments, eras and lifestyles of the last 60 years using their favorite finds from the market. The next one of our designers to be featured is…Anna Braund! This talented creative was recently hand-selected by the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) as one of the Southeast’s eleven up-and-coming designers to watch, and will pair with fellow Atlantan Lauren DeLoach to create their Diamonds of Design vignette. Anna’s work–balanced between bespoke individual style and rooted in the formal principles of design–uses pattern, form and color to create honest expressions of each client’s spirit. REstyleSOURCE recently chatted with Anna, in a brief Q&A which will not only give our readers some background on her design philosophy, but also what they can expect to see from her Diamonds of Design Vignette at AmericasMart Atlanta in January…

How did you get started in the world of interior design? My mom was a designer, so she encouraged me from a young age to dream and create. I still use her drafting tools when I work on floor plans; the nostalgia of something familiar makes me feel rooted that I am working from an honest place.

What inspires your creativity? I am inspired by nature, travel, new from old and the creativity from colleagues and icons and in the industry. I am inspired by storytelling, for it connects me to the heartbeat of someone. Whether it is learning the history behind a beloved antique, culture through travel or reading a memoir, the connection to someone’s story is inspiring.

Anna’s Favorite Quote…

“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, but it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.”

CZ GuestDesigner Notes: Inspiration

Diamonds of Design will focus on style standouts of the last 60 years. Which design icon, style or era from the last 60 years particularly inspires you?  Tastemaker C.Z. Guest is a style icon that inspires me. Known for her understated elegance and timeless American style, Guest’s legacy of grace and good taste truly stands the test of time.

What was the inspiration behind your vignette? Which vendors and products did you go with to create this look? What was the inspiration behind your vignette? Which vendors and products did you go with to create this look? Which pieces are your favorites, and why? Lauren and I will be channeling C.Z. Guest for our vignette. We are excited to reflect her legacy through the use of gilded pieces, rich upholstery, and classic antiques – all of which can be found through temporary and permanent exhibitors such as Illuminati Antiques and Arteriors.

“Additionally, I am pleased to hear that the ANTIQUES collection will return in January, one-of- a-kind antiques bring a deeper story to any space.”

Designer Tips on shopping the market?

“When you shop at AmericasMart, may your pace be measured so that you can be fully present. Engage with the showroom managers, ask questions, sit touch and feel rather than simply walking by and taking pictures. There are many beautiful things to see, enjoy the process.”

JCTKREstyleSOURCE Loves Local

We are all about ‘loving local’—from designers and manufacturers right down to local brick & mortar shops and eateries! What are some of your favorite local shops and restaurants to visit when you’re in Atlanta?

I feel most at home on the Westside of Atlanta for I feel rooted in old brick and mortar surroundings that have been reimagined, for they breath new life into old structures that tell a story of where we came from, and the relationships formed by frequenting them. My favorite places are Ann Mashburn, Bungalow Classic and JCT Kitchen (seen at left)!
